Another Child Porn Bust
Austrian authorities who uncovered an unprecedented child pornography network spanning the globe said Wednesday they handed over at least 103 Canadian IP computer addresses to the RCMP.
The international child pornography ring involved more than 2,360 suspects from 77 countries, among them Canadians, Col. Gerald Hesztera, of the Austrian Bureau of Criminal Investigation, told CBC News from Vienna.
"We gave to the Canadian authorities information about 103 IP computer addresses," he said, adding the bust was "the largest case in Austria, and I'm sure one of the biggest cases also in the world."
For those new to computers, every time you visit a website your IP address is registered as visiting and this is maintained in a log. So if you accidentally happen onto a porn site, your computer is marked on a log by a service provider - the police are not interested in you at this point as finding yourself linked to a porn site happens even to the experienced surfer. However, the police will certainly be interested in your IP address if you go to a Child Porn site and pay money to surf the site - now you are big trouble.
