Just Like It Was In Vietnam ?
America's troops were led to the slaughterhouse during the Viet Nam War. For a visual on this one only has to watch the movie 'Hamburger Hill'. The 101st Airborne Division repeatedly led attacks on a hill defended by the enemy as the American commander flew overhead rallying his troops up the hill. The truly sad part of this whole exercise was the fact that this hill had been earlier captured and then left. In fact, this was the case with the whole Vietnam War.
In conventional war, land was never returned to its original tenant. One moved across the land destroying or capturing the enemy until it no longer existed.
This same situation now seems to be the case in Iraq. Insurgents are putting up a fight within 1000 feet of the
Green Zone in downtown Bagdad.
America disgraced itself with the way the Viet Nam War was ended. The tombstones of those that did not come home and the
Viet Nam Wall speaks volumes about the character of the American troops that made the ultimate sacrifice. Pity that their government and its military leaders wouldn't let them fight in a manner that would allow them to be victorious.
One wonders if the troops in Iraq are being led down the same path.
