Marion Cohen - The Grinch That Stole Xmas
As first reported in the Sun, Cohen ordered the tree — which has stood for many Christmases past in the lobby of the Ontario Court of Justice at 311 Jarvis St. — to be moved to an administrative hallway because it is a Christian symbol.
"I know that Christmas is a national holiday in Canada, however it is a holiday that is not shared by many of the people who come here," Cohen wrote in a letter to court staff.
"I do not think it appropriate that when the clients of our court enter our courthouse the first thing they see is a Christian symbol. The message to the many non-Christians, who attend our court and are confronted with this symbol, is that they are not part of this institution."
Toronto judge Marion Cohen, whose name sounds suspiciously non-christian, has ruled. I hoist a christmas tree up on the right side of this web page in defiance.
