For You Gardeners Out There
Received this e-mail today that might be of interest:
| I was at a Horticultural meeting on Wednesday and came across some interesting information that I would like to pass on. The Dept. of Agriculture has issued a ban on mulch coming up from the New Orleans area and some other parts of the USA. Evidently, they mulched all of the trees that were affected by the hurricanes and are selling it very cheap. Unfortunately, the mulch is infested with termites. While it is though that they would not survive the winters up here, mulch is usually put down in the spring so that leaves several months that they will thrive and multiply and get into trees, shrubs, houses and anything that is wood. A colony of termites eats 1lb of wood in a day. So be cautious when buying mulch this year. Don't buy cheap mulch and ask where it is from before you buy it. |
