I Got Hit With A Virus
Looking back, I should have realized something was wrong. My system was running too slow, but I never caught on. It wasn't until one of my virus apps told me that I realized I had caught a virus.
I have no idea where it came from. I thought I had all angles covered with all the layers of protection that I can think of. But obviously this little bugger slipped through.
So several hours later, once more I am clean!
Housecall's on-line check will open a small window when you click above. Simply follow the instructions given.
Trend has just released its Sysclean Antivirus Tool. You can get it here, but it is a 10 meg download and when you want to update the def files you are faced with another massive download - not my idea of a smooth flowing app. For this reason, I suggest you stick with their online scan to supplement your resident anti virus application.
An alternative I can recommend is Clam Win Anti Virus - I have it running on my machine. It's not a resident anti virus, I use it as a secondary check. Right-clicking a file will give you the opportunity to check a single file or you can use it to check your complete harddrive. It's freeware (5.7 megs) and you can schedule the definition updates to a time that suits you.
I uninstalled Java and reinstalled it. I archive all my downloads so this was no big deal.
So, what can I say - catching a virus isn't something that only happens to new or sloppy users. It can happen to you just as easy. Go to my security page and read up on what you need to know and what you need to do to protect your system as best you can.

So Let's Talk Anti-virus Apps:
| First off - maybe you should run this on-line virus check. It always pays to have a second opinion and not just rely on your resident virus application. |

Getting Back To My Virus
Several instances of the "java byte verify" had infiltrated my C:Documents and Settings folder and they were hiding in zip files in the Sun Java Application Data folder.I uninstalled Java and reinstalled it. I archive all my downloads so this was no big deal.
