Responsibilities Of Internet Providers
No one is above the law. Well, that's the way it should be in spite of repeated instances where individuals or organizations have shown that with the right amount of money and wizkid lawyers, you can get away with murder.
O. J. Simpson and Michael Jackson come to mind.
This post concerns itself with an organization that provides an internet service, something everybody reading this depends on.
Lately, we have seen instances where internet companies have joined hands with authorities in going after virus writers, porn and spam hustlers. Nobody in their right mind has complained that this action is bad. But now, Yahoo is under attack for complying with Chinese law by releasing some of their data on its users.
One such incident involved an individual named Shi Tao who was arrested and jailed by Chinese authorities. It is unfortunate that this practice of cooperation has resulted in what can only be described as a blow to human rights.
Yahoo had this to say in it's defence.
