Hockey Night In Canada To Return This Fall
The picture's caption reads, "So, who's the greatest hockey player of them all?" and the two gentlemen were indeed two of the most famous, not to mention greatest, of them all.Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins should have played on for years and years had it not been for his knees. Many years of inferior hockey players slapping away at Orr's knees put him out of the game far too early. Gordie Howe did play on and on as few would go after him because Gordie had a vicious set of elbows that even the inferior players stayed away from. Most recently in hockey history is The Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Wayne should be morphed into this picture to have three of hockey's greatest ever players all together. Back to today's brand of hockey - the Players Association and the owners finally got together and there will be a NHL schedule this year. CBC has the story here. And guess what! The man you love to hate, Don Cherry will be back too, and the controversial seven-second delay, which was placed on Cherry's live Coach's Corner segment in January 2004, has been rescinded. My bet is CBC will be scratching their head after game one of the season wondering why they even bothered. Cherry's followers think he's God-like and can do no wrong. Personally, I'll be busy washing my hair or doing my nails whenever there is a game on tv. My kind of hockey is not today's brand. I believe good, clean bodychecks are part of the game and not something that starts a donnybrook. Give me Dave Keon, Bobby Baun, Carl Brewer, Marcel Dionne anyday compared to today's pansies! |
