Why Do We Keep Sexual Predators Alive ?From SFGate.com comes this story of a man that deserves to die, not live out his life in prison, nor serve his time and be released:
San Jose police are asking the public for help identifying potential victims of an alleged sexual predator who is accused of preying on children and keeping a log containing hundreds of victims dating to the 1970s.
Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller, 63, has been charged with seven felonies, including aggravated sexual assault and lewd acts on a child, for abusing two San Jose boys whom he allegedly lured to his Vineyard Street home with offers of gifts and invitations to watch movies and play video games, authorities said Wednesday. If convicted on all counts and enhanced penalties for multiple victims, Schwartzmiller faces up to 105 years in prison, said Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Steve Fein. The suspect was arrested May 23 in Washington state, the day after the parents of a 12-year-old San Jose boy told police they believed Schwartzmiller had molested their son. Detectives later located another San Jose boy who allegedly had been victimized. Schwartzmiller also faces child sexual assault charges in Oregon. He is being held in Santa Clara County Jail in lieu of $2 million bond. During a search of the suspect's home, investigators found "numerous logs indicating a very large number of potential victims dating back to the 1970s, '' police spokesman Sgt. Nick Muyo said. Police also found several binders containing hundreds of images of child pornography. In the hundreds of log entries, Fein said "there are names and codes which seem to indicate certain kinds of (sex) acts." Police plan to display some of the logs at a San Jose news conference scheduled for this morning. Investigators will ask the public to help identify other possible victims. "Investigators have information and evidence to suggest that there are a number of more victims that they can attribute to this guy, and they're going to be asking for the public's help in doing just that,'' Muyo said. Schwartzmiller has a long history of preying on boys, including arrests in Oregon, Idaho, New York, California, Arkansas and Washington, police said. Police believe Schwartzmiller, who worked in construction, used several aliases during the past five years to avoid revealing that he was a convicted sex offender.
