All's Fair In Love And War

by POKO on Jan 8th, 2005 7:29 AM

It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.....
Chances are we've all been there , done that. But this post is not about Love, it's about War. Specifically, it's about torture.

If you blog, and you must else you wouldn't be reading this, then you will have seen the various blogs agonizing over the question:

I've got this terrorist. Do I torture him for information?

Short Answer:  Yes! Torture the son of a bitch.

Long Answer:  Much has been written and I readily admit that I haven't read it all. I couldn't read it all. I'd have no life whatsoever. As it is, the wheels on my computer chair have already sunk half an inch into the cement floor. I still haven't blown the snow in my driveway from two days ago.
You cannot forget - The United States of America is at war with Terrorism. This isn't a nagging toothache sort of thing. This is war, where the one side is trying to defeat the other side.
The US and a few good nations boarded a bunch of planes and ships and invaded an enemy.
I apologize that my good nation was not part of that. But I am only one voice and my government, in their infinite wisdom, declined the offer. Old News. - I won't forget and a lot of good Americans won't forget, and I can't blame them. My Prime Minister and his troop of politicians with a UN conscience have to live with that decision.
The Allied troops beat the bejezuz out of the Iraq army. What the hell else is new! The Iraqui News Minister continued his missbriefings with the press even as our boys were standing in Saddam's castle. Again Old News.
So here we are, the army has been defeated and disbanded, the Allies are cleaning up the mess made in the short-lived war, a few Iraquis continue to attack our boys and any Iraqui that gets in the way.
In short, the Allies have lost many men. There is a tally of American soldiers KIA in a post below. The number of locals killed eludes me, but I'm sure it is high.
The enemy is not an army of uniformed soldiers. It's a ragtag group of undisciplined, semi-organized radicals that believe in a regime that is undemocratic. It's not even autocratic - it's the baddest bunch of bastards that have ever existed. They make Hitler and Mussolini look like altar boys. They use a religion or should I say misuse a religion to justify their work - I haven't read the Koran lately, but if it is a Holy Book as they claim I cannot see it saying, "Kill all Americans". An oversimplification for sure, but you know what I'm saying.

Any prisoners taken should be encouraged to tell all. Lack of cooperation on their part should lead to 'measures' taken to encourage said information being shared.

On the homefront here in North America - anyone suspected of being a terrorist should be incarcerated and dealt with as necessary. I'm not talking about ordinary people active with Greenpeace, I'm not talking about Democrats jailing Republicans. I'm talking about terrorists (arab or homegrown) that want to kill people and destroy democracy.

Don't bother yelling 'Geneva Convention' at me. Our fathers fought in WWII against Hitler. His pilots sprayed their guns on civilians. Our pilots dropped firebombs on German cities. One plane, yes - one plane dropped a bomb on Japan. Women, old people, and children were killed and maimed. A lot of time was spent deciding to do that by an unpopular President who was thrown into the Oval Office with the death of FDR.
He did it to put an end to the war, to stop the needless death of more of our troops, to stop the death of more innocents who just happened to live in war-torn areas of the world.
Today, just as back then, enough is enough - the war has to be done with. The enemy must be taken out. It's just that simple. Kill or be killed. Doesn't sound nice, but it's where we are at.

Dean's World, Ace of Spades, and Belmont Club are just a few of the many blogs posting on this subject.
